Have you ever wondered what your dog is trying to tell you? When my dog first became part of my family, I was clueless on doggie language. I have a friend who would look at Sadie and say she is telling you she wants to play or she is confident right now. I always wondered how my friend knew this (beyond the years of experience and owning multiple dogs).
I was really excited when I got a copy of The Secret Language of Dogs by Victoria Stilwell. I was quickly drawn to the fun cover image of the playful and happy looking dog on the cover.
This book was a very quick read and one I didn’t want to put down. As a newish dog owner, I found this book to be full of so much information that was very interesting. As I was reading, especially the section on tail wags, I kept finding myself going to look at my dog to see what she was trying to communicate.
I really love all of the photos in this book. Yes, it technically filled space in the book, but many of the pictures were fun to look at and helped me better understand what the author was explaining.
Another feature that is neat and one I may use in the future is the index in the back of the book. As I was reading, I didn’t think, I sure hope there is an index in the back, but I can see how that may be beneficial in the future.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. While it was a quick read, I found it to be very educational and informative. I learned a lot about my dog and can better understand how she communicates. I found this topic to be very interesting and exciting to learn about.
